Hey Everyone! My name is Maylena, and I am an assistant at the MSA Museum for the first time this summer. I am studying history in university, so I couldn't be more excited to be working here! Abbotsford has such a rich history that before now, I knew almost nothing about. Thus far, my experience here has been fantastic. Our major project this summer is a book about the pioneers of the area, so I've been interviewing all kinds of people with all sorts of incredible stories. As well, I've had the opportunity to be a part of some truly spectacular events, most recently being the Optimist's Family Fair. At this event, the Vikings of The Reik Felag made an appearance!
Hello Everyone! My name is Pam, I’m a History student, and this is my third year working as a summer student at the MSA Museum! So far, the summer has been great. We’ve gotten started on the MSA Pioneer Book that the MSA Museum is publishing in conjunction with the MSA Pioneer Association. It’s been so much fun talking to pioneers who lived in the MSA area between the years of 1890-1950. I’m learning so much about Abbotsford history! We’ve also participated in quite a few community events, the most recent one with the Optimists Club of Abbotsford when the Vikings invaded Trethewey House!
On June 16th, from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm, the Optimists Family Fun Fair took place at Trethewey House! The Optimists were here, (in the pouring rain!) with free food and refreshments for everyone who came to visit. They even had cupcakes! As well, we had The Reik Felag Norse Culture Recreation Society take over our grounds. They turned the area into a realistic Viking Village, complete with sword fighting and weaving and metalwork demonstrations.
Here are some pictures from the fun-filled day. And to all the kids who came out, we're going to be doing our prize draw soon! Make sure you get your built Viking ship in before July 1st.
